Depending on the composition of potassium salts, deposits can be sulphate, chloride or mixed.
In combination with phosphorus and nitrogen potassium is one of the most essential elements for plants; it is the basis for producing mineral potash fertilizer. In addition to increasing productivity, potassium improves qualitative characteristics of agricultural products; it enhances plants resistance to diseases, simplifies products storage, increases the resistance of harvest in transit, as well as improves their taste and aesthetic qualities.
The most common type of potash fertilizers is potassium chloride. It is used as the main fertilizer for plowing, and in light soil for cultivation. For agriculture they produce granular and non-dusty forms of potassium chloride. There's production of potassium chloride with various microaddings (copper, boron, zinc).
The world largest potassium-bearing basins are Verkhnekamsky in Russia and Saskatchewan in Canada, they account 82.2% of the world reserves of K2O. According to this index Russia is on second place in the world after Canada, where there are more than 40% of the world resources. In Russia forecast resources of potash are significant and totally are about 12.65 billion tons, it exceeds 17% of the world resources.
